Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player won his initial title for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a torrid period, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - led to him falling of the elite rankings and finally separating with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now working with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.

This represents his initial championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt from spring of 2023.

Success also indicates the Russian has achieved 21 titles at 21 distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters at once, so to get a trophy is particularly special," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted commentators to question if his skill to play at the top level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, attempting to approach the net and perform assertively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair traded service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial tour championship, took control to create a final set.

Moutet rescued four initial break points in a tight third set before Medvedev broke to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, he earned the win with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
